Day 1 

Fly to Rome-Fiumicino (overnight)

 

Day 2

Colosseum - Circus Maximus - Orange Gardens

The day will include a guided tour in English of the Coloseum and a short walk to Circus Maximus where so many Christians gave their lives in witness to Christ. Then we will take a stroll through the Orange Gardens and stop by the Knights of Malta Keyhole for a poster card view of St Peter's Basilica. 

 

Day 3

Sunday Mass - Angelus with Pope Francis - Highlights of Rome Tour

According to how we plan our trip, we will take the opportunity to attend the Angelus with the Holy Father and listen to his message. Then we will see Rome's most famous sites: Navona Square, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Pincio Promenade and even Caravaggio paintings!

 

Day 4

Catacombs of St Callixtus - St Paul Outside the Walls- Tomb of St Agnes- Tomb of St Catherine of Siena

The group will visit one of Rome's most important Catacombs to learn about the roots of our faith. Then we will see the burial place of the great St. Paul in one of the 4 major papal basilicas. We'll continue to the site where St. Agnes, one of Rome's most important martyrs, was killed for her faith. We will then walk where St. Catherine of Siena is buried.

Day 5

Tomb of St Philip Neri- Tomb of St Ignatius Loyola & Francis Xavier - Trip to Pompeii

We will begin the day by visiting the tomb of St Philip Neri, known as the "Second Apostle of Rome", St Paul being the first. The group will then walk to the Church of the Gesu where remains and relics of two great Jesuit saints lay: St. Ignatius Loyola and St Francis Xavier. We will then take the afternoon to tour either Castelgandolfo, the Papal vacation residence, or Pompeii, the city buried in the ash of the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79AD.

Day 6

St Mary Major -  Holy Stairs - St John Lateran 

We will visit another of the 4 major papal basilicas and one of the oldest churches dedicated to Mary in the world. The group will then visit and go up the Holy Stairs on our knees as is the custom. The stairs were brought from the Roman Praetorium in Jerusalem that Jesus himself walked up in order to be sentenced by Pontius Pilate and lead up to the personal chapel of the early popes.

Day 7 (Assisi extension)

Basilica of St Francis  - Basilica of St Clare - Guided Tour of Assisi 

The group will travel by bus to Assisi, where we will have the joy of visiting both the burial places of the two great saints of Assisi: Francis and Claire. We will also enjoy a guided tour of the town and explanations of the Giotto frescoes inside the basilicas.

Day 7/8 

Vatican  - Tomb of St John Paul II - Vatican Museums / Sistine Chapel

On the last day we will soak in the glory of the Vatican, praying at the tomb of St John Paul II, among many others, visiting the impressive Vatican museums and seeing Michelangelo's Pieta and frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. 

 

Day 8/9 

Fly Rome-Fiumicino to DFW
