We will see the frescoes of the renowned Late Medieval artist Giotto and go on a guided tour of Assisi.

Day 3

Assisi to Spello (8 mile walk)

We will begin our journey towards the Holy House of Loreto by walking from Assisi to Spello. This will take us through olive groves and breathtaking views of the Umbrian hills. We will stop at a 1000 year old monastery, San Benedetto in Subasio, and will arrive at Spello, an ancient town which existed before the Romans occupied and developed it in the 1st century B.C. Spello is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Italy!

Day 4

Spello to Colfiorito (18 mile walk)

The second stage of the walking portion of the pilgrimage is perhaps the most challenging, with a gradual 1000 meter climb up the Apennines mountains through dirt roads and wild paths. However, the challenge is greatly rewarded with wonderful views of waterfalls, wooded areas, green pastures.

Day 5

Colfiorito to Muccia (11 mile walk)

The third stage begins with a centuries old church built on the site of a pre-Roman temple. Our walk will take us to the Hermitage of Blessed Rizzerio, a close follower of St Francis who would hear his confessions in this very hermitage.

Day 6

Muccia - Camerino - Belforte del Chienti (19 mile walk)

This stage gives us the opportunity to see waterfalls and rivers. As with all of the other days, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the famous cuisine of the Marche region.

Day 7

Belforte del Chienti to Tolentino (6 mile walk)

The fifth stage is a short and enjoyable walk as we recover and rest before the last stages. We will get to visit the beautiful Basilica of St Nicola and see the wonderful town of Tolentino.

Day 8

Tolentino to Macerata (21 mile walk)

The sixth stage is a long hike to Macerata, the birthplace of Fr Matteo Ricci who was one of the first to evangelize China. On the way we will be able to visit the impressive Castle della Rancia.

Day 9

Macerata - Montecassiano - Recanati - LORETO (21 mile walk)

The seventh and final stage takes us through more medieval towns to the Sanctuary of the Holy House of Loreto. Inside are the original walls of the Virgin Mary's house in Nazareth, where she received the Annunciation of the Angel Gabriel.
